Ah Meng, the orang utan

Ah Meng is synonymous with the Singapore Zoo. She was for a long time the star of the zoo breakfast programme "Breakfast with Ah Meng". She has been featured in countless press stories and in numerous travel films and TV series. In 1992, she bagged the "Special Tourism Ambassador Award" by the Singapore Tourism Board, in recognition of her contributions to tourism. Through Ah Meng, the zoo have been able to highlight the plight of endangered animals, particularly orang utans in the wild. Ah Meng has been adopted by HSBC since 1982. To the sadness to many in Singapore and abroad, Ah Meng passed away on the 8th Feb 2008 leaving behind a legacy.
