This is a very nice postcard travelling 4,182 from Japan! Thanks Sumie! Some history here from Sumie, Hollywood used to be HollywoodLand as an ad for real estate, but a young actress jumped off there and thus the land was removed. : )

It's my understanding that the "land" was removed to change the then-decrepit sign's purpose from an expired advertisement to a landmark that reflected the city, rather than the "Hollywoodland" housing development. Another Postcrosser recently sent me a card showing the same sign!
Hey, its interesting history about this Hollywood sign isnt it? well, one thing for sure, it is known most people now : )
